[?]-1576; 1st Earl of Earl of Essex; Elizabeth II lent him £10,000
for the conquest of Ulster which he attempted in years up to his death
in Dublin, 1576; treacherously captured Brian MacPhelim O’Neill at
a banquet in Belfast, sent him and his wife to Dublin where they were
behaeded and quartered, and murdered 200 of his men; massacred 400 on
Rathlin Island, Francis Drake participating in the attack.
