of Ireland, 1367-9; son of Maurice Fitzthomas, first earl of Desmond;
generally styled Gerald Fitzmaurice; granted lands of deceased br. Maurice
on condition of marrying dg. of Earl of Ormonde; copy of amalgamation
with natives as justiciar; defeated and captured by Brian O’Brien,
1369; upheld King Edward II’s authority in Munster; posthumously
described as ‘witty and ingenious composer of Irish poetry’.
