Notes
[Mrs. W. C. Sullivan]; author of The One Outside [c. 1915], noticed
in Maunsel publishers list appended to 1915 pop. edn. of St. John
Ervine, Mrs. Martins Man, with remarks on her racy
flavour and sure appeal owing to sincerity and simplicity (Glasgow Herald); also called a collection of charming and
sympathetic short stories
most of them are informed by the realistation
that underlying tragedy of all life, which finds its most representative
expression in the Celtic temperament. (Westminster Gazette).
Dictionary of Ulster Biography, ed. Kate Newmann (Belfast:
QUB/IIS 1993), dates early 20th c. only; adds m. Sullivan, presumably
the president of Queens College, Cork; published in periodicals
in Ireland and America.
