1898-1985; b. Belfast; raised in Howth and Foxrock; Irish Volunteer; led
successful raid on Mountjoy Prison, 1926; established Republican Congress
with others in 1934, leaving the IRA to do so; dissolved in 1935; recruited
volunteers for Republicans in Spanish Civil War; d. at his house on Howth
