1929- [pseud. of Harry Patterson]; b. N. England; moved to Belfast with his mother on break-up o her marriage; later moved to Leeds; left school early; joined Army; served with Household Cavalry [Royal Horse Guard] in East Germany; afterwards worked in London as labourer and driver; grad. in sociology and sociopathology at London Univ.; worked as teacher; commenced writing, 1959; best known for The Eagle has Landed (1975); issued Eye of the Storm (1992), a fictional account of the attempted assassination of Margaret Thatcher by the ruthless IRA-man ‘Sean Dillon’ and his colleagues; also Thunder Point (1993), in which Dillon is recruited by British intelligence; Higgins lives in Jersey with family.
