?-1782; b. Cloyne, Co. Cork; at first a sailor; first noticed in Dublin, 1740; produced portraits of family groups such as The Bateson Family (1762; Ulster Museum) and The Corbally Family (NGI); admired for floral and still-life details; also worked in England. DNB
