1679-1748; friend of Robert Wilks; he deserted law training at Middle
Temple for plays; a note to Dunciad shows him famous for a play-a-year
and spending every day at Buttons [Club]. There is no indication that
he is Irish, though his works incl. The Gentleman Cully, comedy
(1702), and Life and Times of Capt. John Carey, a play (Aug. Repr.),
bear Irish titles. DNB
