Life
1790-1882; neice of Michael Kelly; actress and singer; friend of the Charles
Lamb, who proposed marriage to her and celebrated her acting in two sonnets,
afterwards remaining friendly; appeared at Drury Lane aged seven; impressed
Sheridan, Fox, and Mrs. Siddons by her Arthur (in King John); Drury Lane
and Italian Opera, 1800-06; remained at Drury Lane from reopening, 1812-35;
Ophelia to Edmund Keans Hamlet, &c.; opening acting school in
retirement, forming basis of later Royalty dramatic school; gave readings
and monologues; excelled in melodrama. DNB
