Life
1811-1883; b. May, Stradbally, Queens Co. [Laois]; 4th son of John
Kelly, Stradbally; ed. TCD (though not listed as an alumnus); non-practising
lawyer; active in politics, esp. Tithe agitation; noted speaker, Clerk
of the Peace, Queens Co. (Offaly), through influence of Lord Castletown;
wrote Glenmore, or the Irish Peasant (1839), a novel about eviction,
signed A Member of the Irish Bar; ded. to his friend his friend
the poet Thomas Campbell; d. 24 Mar., at residence Glentolka, Fairview,
Dublin; bur. Stradbally. PI IF

lists The Manor of Glenmore, or The Irish Peasant (London
1839) [Stradbally in last year of Catholic Emancipation agitation, viz.
1828; sympathetic to peasants; many historical portaits, including Dr.
Doyle, JKL; strongly critical of Protestant ascendancy; urges reconciliation].
