(1898); A Man Adrift (1899), autobiographical; A Sailor Tramp
(1902), geographically farflung with measure of auto-biography. In Who’s
Who, he accounts for himself as self-educated, mill worker in Manchester;
before the mast; labourer and tramp in US; Indian friend and Indian fighter;
Klondike goldminer before the Rush; opera singer and actor; drifted into
