1822-1915; b. Co. Limerick; taught in Templeglantine, Co. Limerick, 1852-1877; moved to London, working as a clerk; briefly worked as correspondent in Paris; English-Irish Dictionary (1904; enl. edn. 1922 [var. 1921]), published chiefly at his own expense, with donations from Irish bishops and a small grant from the British Govt.; d. Tournafulla, Co. Limerick. DIB DIH.
