joined Metropolitan Police, 1858; director of G Division (detectives);
investigated Fenian and IRB; active against Land League; arrested Parnell
at Morrisons Hotel, 12 Oct. 1881; investigated Phoenix Park Murders;
Exchange Court Clerk, Dublin Castle, 1892-94; Asst. Commissioner on retirement
in 1901. DIH
