1774-1849; illiterate 19th c. folk-poet; b. nr. Inchigeelagh, Co.
Cork; Buí branch of O’Leary, former land-owners; under the
patronage of the MacCarthys; related to Art O’Leary, the folk hero,
and the 18th c. poet Donnachadh Dall Ó Laoire; author of “Cath
Cheim an Fhia [The Battle of Keimanegh” dealing with clash between
local militia and the Whiteboys in 1822; evicted in 1847; moved with husband
James Burke to live with son Micheal; bur. at Inchigeelagh Churchyard.
