Life
1656-1726; b. Co. Cork, d. Doneraile; son of landowners, ed. bardic schools,
practising dán direach, and later amhrán metres; m. 1680;
ordained at death of wife in 1707, becoming parish priest in Doneraile;

1680; spent part of following years in Kerry visiting house of Ó
Súilleabháin Mór, Dunkerron, etc., transcribing material
from old MSS, visited Domhnall, son of Séafraidh Ó Donnchadha
an Ghleanna, at Glenflesk, copying material from ODonoghue MSS,
evicted from home at Port Maighe (prob. Co. Kerry), 1692; moved to Cork
City; associated with Diarmain mac Seáin Bhuí Mhic Cártaigh
of Blarney, whom he lamented in verse (d.1707); also with Fr. Conchúr
mac Cairteáin of Carrignavar (d.1737) whom he assisted with trans.
of A[cc]allam na bhFíoraon, Ulliam Mac Cairteáin,
a particular friend; imprisoned in Cork city, 1698, 1703; befriended by
John Baptist Sleyne, Catholic bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross; the deaths
of his wife in 1707, and his son Art in 1709; ordained 1717; had a sharp
correspondence with Seán Clárach Mac Domhnaill while parish
