1792-1866; b. Dublin, son of William Conyngham Plunkett; ed., TCD; Dean
of Down; Protestant bishop of Tuam, Killala and Achonry, 1839-66; gave
support to evangelicals of Irish Church Mission, and especially Rev. Edward
Nangle, involving conflict with John MacHale, Catholic Archbishop of Tuam;
denounced for evicting Catholic tenants from Tourmakeady estate where
his sister est. an evangelical school (Times, Nov. 1860); issued
Convert Confirmations, A Discourse Delivered to Converts from Romanism
in the West Galway (1851). DIH.
