Contents
A-Z Datasets provide comprehensive biographical & bibliographical
information on 4,500 Irish writers along with extracts from their
works and commentaries upon them. Irish serial publications are
treated in a similar fashion as authors and are listed in the alphabetical
indexes with them.
NOTE: The publications mentioned in the A-Z Datasets are not a reflection of the Princess Grace Irish Library’s holdings in Monaco. |
| Getting
In
The Datasets and their contents can be accessed through
the alphabetical indexes in the left-hand frame of the current window.
Authors are generally listed by surnames (e.g., go to Authors/C
for William Carleton) and journals by the first term after the
article (e.g., go to Journals/H for The Honest Ulsterman.)

Browsing
The author files stand at the centre of the EIRData informatics
system and comprise the largest area of the Website. Once you have
reached a given author, you can browse through seven types of information
(i.e., Life, Works, Criticism, Commentary,
References, Quotations & Notes) by clicking
the corresponding button in the navigation bar.

|
File
Size
Most of authors are covered in a single file containing some
or all of the above types of information. However, separate files
have been created for each type when dealing with the most important
authors. This is because larger file-sizes causes downloading time
to lengthen dramatically. The navigation bar functions just the
same.

Navigation
The left-hand navigation frame remains in view whichever page
of the A-Z Datasets you are on. Wherever you are, the Home
button will take you back to the Front Page of EIRData while the
second button bears the name of the current region and brings you
to the index of that region.
|
| History
You can move forwards and backwards between points reached at
different stages in your Website session (i.e., Java history
) by using the Back button in your browser. If this
is turned off - a good way of increasing screen space - you
can get around using the keyboard combinations <Alt+Left
Arrow> and <Alt+Right Arrow>. A Back button
also appears in many files.
|
| Searching
The non-Boolean search engine in the navigation frame can trace an enormous
range of terms located on the Website. The engine will find any file that includes a word or words inserted in the white box, with details of the file including its name and specimen contents, laid out on the results page. The search files are rebuilt each week to reflect updating. |
